Union Assurance PLC, Sri Lanka’s longest-standing private Life Insurer, is expanding the reach of its emotional well-being initiative, Piripun Parapurak, Surakina Mehewarak, beyond Colombo as part of its commitment to supporting students across Sri Lanka. The latest programme was held at Pushpadana Girls’ College in Kandy, engaging over 300 students and marking another step in the initiative’s journey to make emotional well-being awareness and support more accessible to students, equipping them to navigate the challenges of modern life.
Launched in 2025, Piripun Parapurak, Surakina Mehewarak was introduced to help school children build positive mindsets and strengthen their emotional well-being. The initiative initially engaged students across several schools in Colombo through expert-led discussions on emotional awareness, managing academic pressures, and the impact of digital screens on personal development. Building on its long-term vision, Union Assurance has now entered the second phase of the programme, extending its reach to communities beyond Colombo and enabling more students across the country to access practical guidance and meaningful conversations on emotional well-being.
The interactive programme, delivered by qualified mental health practitioner, Counsellor & Psychotherapist Dr. Chaminda Weerasiriwardane, engaged students in open conversations and practical exercises addressing some of the key challenges faced by students today, including examination-related stress, academic pressures, and the growing impact of digital screen dependency. Through relatable scenarios, guided discussions, and practical coping techniques, students were encouraged to better understand their emotions, respond to challenges positively, and develop healthier habits that support their overall well-being.
